Krabi Province, Beaches & Islands

Krabi is a laid-back

destination where comfort and relaxation is the top on the agenda. No wonder that Scandinavian tourists are most of the visitors, they can continuing their northern sleep.

The landscape is dominated by limestone formations popping up all over the countryside and the sea.

With abundant lush tropical vegetation and still functioning jungle above the water and beautiful coral reefs and a strong marine life under the water surface, there's plenty to discover.

Just take a daytrip, either from the hotel or just travel to Ao Nang hire a long tail boat and move from one limestone rock formations and spectacular beaches on the islands to another.

To use a tour guide at  Krabi will about triple the price, just note the islands you want to visit, tell it to the long tail boat guy and it will cost you about a third, what the tour guide know the long tail boat guy also know. For a very special trip you could take a tour with a sea kayaks company and go. A boat day trip or more to Phi Phi is a must too!
 
If you want camping you could go to Than Bok Khorani National Park, a secluded place with no accommodation but a very picturesque scene plus limestone caves and mangrove forests. In general, if you are not Thai don't do camping you would be a easy pray and maybe never wake up again.

A day trip to Krabi from Phuket

by road. Just have a break from the usual and try some relationship with nature, in one of the most surrealistic places on earth. Surrealistic because the scenery at Phang Nga Bay and the Trang Archipelago, that's all around the same area, is a reminder to the half mad world of Salvatore Dali. World famous southern Thailand is full of cultural intensity, spectacularly sculpted scenery and a good infrastructure. Great beaches perfectly complement their beautiful settings, you could either baking on white sandy beaches or maybe trekking in the jungle, get a massage in a spa or enjoy a herbal sauna.

Another  Krabi attraction

is the Shell Fossil Beach Cemetery. A few minutes South of Ao Nang. About 35 million years ago Ban Laem Pho Cape was a freshwater swamp with millions of snails. The remains formed a fossilized shell layer almost half a meter thick. Fossil Shell Beach is about 80 million years old and was layered with shell fossils over time. Today it forms a flat platform of compacted fossils along the shore. At the fossil beach cemetery at Krabi Ban Lean Pho you can see the huge fossil shell slabs in the picture right at bottom. This is a  Krabi tourist attraction mostly frequented by Thai people several hundred visitors per day are coming. There is a car park and shopping area just behind the cliff with a great panorama over the Andaman Sea and Krabi Islands. A staircase leads down to the   Krabi Fossil Shell Beach, the stairs are broken off in the moment, that means the Fossil Shell Beach can only be reached out of Ao Nang by boat.

Plenty of shell handicrafts, like lamps. curtains and sea shell jewelry is offered at the car park shopping area above the Fossil Shell Beach. Year round, a plethora of beautiful sea shells are offered. To collect sea shells is rather difficult. If you are in the mood to buy some items buy them in the shop, this way also some money will stay in the pockets of the small shop holder. The shells are offered in many sizes, shapes and types. The potential to make something out of sea shells is limited only by your imagination.

Ao Nang is only a few minutes drive to the north and   Krabi town is about 15 km to the east. But try it the interesting way, hire a boat at Ao Nang and approach the beach and cliff from the waterside.
