Shell Fossil Beach Cemetery
Krabi has a couple of
unusual attractions this are pre
historic cave paintings at Ao
Luk and the Krabi fossil shell
beach also called beach
cemetery. The whole area in
front of the sandy beach is made
from fossil shells and as
usually there are fossils
for sale, this is south
of Ao Nang Krabi.
This is not a particular
holiday beach and more than a
dozen vendors at the car park
above the beach make good
business every day by selling
fossilized shells but
rather more shells which just
have been collected a few days
before, all kind of souvenirs
and gifts are made from.
About 35 million years ago
today's Ban Laem Pho Cape in
Krabi was an large freshwater
swamp with millions of snails.
The remains formed a fossilized
shell layer almost 40 centimeter
thick.
The Krabi fossil shell cemetery
is all together about 80 million
years old and was layered with
shell fossils over time, today
its a
flat platform of compacted
fossils along the shore, above
the beach is a big car park
where buses and cars coming in
all the time. A
interesting Krabi sightseeing
spot attracting several hundred
visitors per day. The car
park and shopping are a is just
on the cliff where a stairway
leads down to the
Fossil
Shell
Beach,
the stairs are broken off in the
moment - - that means the
Fossil
Shell
Beach
can only be reached out of Ao
Nang by boat.
Ao Nang is about 10 minutes
drive to the north and Krabi
town is about 15 km to the east.

at the car park shopping area
above theFossil
Shell
Beach.
Year round, a plethora of
beautiful sea shells are
offered.
To collect sea shells during low
tide, when the water has
retreated is rather difficult.
Its better to buy some of them
just in the shop, this way also
some money will stay in the
pockets of the small shop
holder.
The
shells are offered in many
sizes, shapes and types of
shells. The potential to
make something out of sea shells is limited only by your
imagination. It really looks good, what is amazing where
this shell creations are coming
from since the shell on display
at the shops are for sure not
from this area.
- Here
is the fossil beach cemetery in Krabi at Ban Lean Pho,
you can see the
huge fossil shell slabs in the picture below

One common
problem working with sea shells is they are very
fragile and brittle. You could attach the shells to
a hard surface
like wood used for frames, jewelry boxes, and mirrors. |

Sea Shells Handicraft

All
it takes is glue that bonds well with wood and organic
material, some unfinished wood products, your shells, and
some creativity. To finish your design off, a clear gloss
will keep the shells shiny and provide some protection and
durability.
Most of the products you need for these can be
purchased at your local craft store.
Another use for your beautiful sea shells is handmade
jewelry. Sea shells can be used in the same way as beads. |
